Driveway and paver cleaning in Cape Coral
A driveway takes the most pressure of any surface at home, and it sends the most water straight toward the street swale, so plan the cleaning and the runoff together.
Concrete and pavers ask for different care
Poured concrete handles a rotary surface cleaner well, which leaves an even finish without the stripes a hand wand can leave. Pavers clean well too, but the sand in the joints washes out with the dirt. Expect the contractor to refill the joints afterward, and ask whether polymeric sand or a sealer is part of the quote or an extra.
Sealing is a separate job with its own drying time. Ask how long the drive must stay empty, what the sealer is made of, and what happens if rain arrives before it cures.
Stains that pressure alone will not lift
Orange streaks from sprinklers or fertilizer, black tire marks and oil spots each need their own treatment. Rust usually calls for a mild acid product, oil for a degreaser and sometimes hot water. Ask the contractor which stains they expect to remove fully and which may only fade.
Swale, storm grate and permit questions
Many Cape Coral driveways meet a grassy swale in the City right-of-way. The City’s Surface Water Management program classifies driveways as swale, ramp or culvert types and requires a permit to add or replace a driveway within the right-of-way, typically the first 15 to 20 feet from the road (retrieved September 27, 2026). Cleaning is not replacement, but re-laying pavers in that strip is worth asking about before anyone starts.
Water from the drive runs into that swale. Ask whether the contractor will cover the nearest storm grate or recover the rinse with a vacuum, as the FDEP’s mobile-washing practices describe.
Owls, trucks and the lawn
Cape Coral’s burrowing owls nest from February 15 to July 10, and the City’s protected species page asks for 33 feet of clearance from a burrow during nesting and 10 feet otherwise. The same page notes owls may shelter in shaded spots such as storm drains on hot days. The City also prohibits parking on pervious surfaces such as grass in residential zoning, according to its common code violations list, so a wash rig belongs on the pavement.

Do pavers need re-sanding after a pressure wash?
Usually. Washing pulls sand out of the joints, and the contractor should refill them. Ask whether joint sand and sealing are in the quote or priced separately.
Can rust stains be removed from a driveway?
Often they can be lightened a lot with a rust remover made for concrete or pavers. Deep or old stains may fade rather than disappear, so ask for an honest expectation.
